Camping at the beach is the ultimate summer getaway to unplug, relax, and fully enjoy a whole 24 hours at the beach. My husband and I have successfully camped on the beach twice - two years in a row. When I mean successfully, we have tried previous years and no one prepares you for the extreme wind and other circumstances that make it a bit difficult to camp. 

Here's your guide to camping at Padre Island National Park (North Beach)- 

First thing first, let's talk tent. Your regular tent will be hard press to withstand the wind.  Also, it's very difficult to set it up due to high winds. 

Amazon sells a camping tent that attaches to your 10x10 canopy. I have linked the exact tent we used. I also suggest to buy two canopies for extra shade. The first one will attach to your tent and the second for shade. 

Helpful Packing Tips 

Here's a list of items you should consider bringing: 

- Towels (one for each day). We had to buy extra because the humidity is so high towels do not dry. 

- Throw blanket (Our Mandala blankets or our Pastel Mexican blankets are perfect to lay out). 

- Chairs, table, bbq pit, firewood (insert all your usual beach items) etc.. 

- Sleeping mats (i'm linking what we used) 

- Jacket (It can get chilly in the evening, so if you want to stay warm and feel like a wanderlust babe I suggest to invest in a unique boho jacket). Here's a pic of our Beaded Crescent Moon Jacket. 

- Toilet bucket. Ok so this one is important! I highly recommend bringing a toilet bucket to use at night (#1 Only). Crabs as well as other animals are active at night including coyotes looking for food scraps, so having a handy toilet inside your tent is highly recommended. Also, the tent should stay close to avoid getting mosquitos. Here's a pic of our toilet, the seat is a pool noodle and you can either put sand from the beach or saw dust. 

-North Beach is pretty secluded and not many people camp, so enjoy and soak up the sun!
